What Is A Chartered Mutual Fund Counselor (CMFC®)?
A chartered mutual fund counselor, or CMFC, is a professional designation offered by the College of Financial Planning.
The CMFC is the only recognized designation in the financial industry that is aimed at mutual funds.
One would want to hire a CMFC if they are interested in investing in mutual funds but unsure of where to start and want to obtain an expert’s advice.
Clients can rest easy knowing that CMFC designees are required to abide by a code of professional conduct, and can be reported to the College of Financial Planning if they do not abide by these standards.
CMFC costs will vary by financial advisor, with some choosing to charge an hourly rate for services while others may offer a flat fee.
CMFC holders are required to complete a 10 week course and pass an exam.
Holders are also expected to complete 16 hours of continuing education every 2 years in order to keep up with the latest changes and trends in the financial industry.
