Introduction

Success leaves clues.

Finance Strategists sat down with Dr. Edward Pultar, founder of tools.valarm.net. He shared his thoughts on the past, present, and future of the company, as well as the insight he gained from running the business.

Who is Edward Pultar?

Q: Who are you and what’s your background?

Howdy. My name’s Dr. Edward Pultar, Ph.D. I speak Spanish and English and have lived all over the world, most recently in Latin America. I’ve worked on Google Earth, and have been a professor and faculty member at various universities around the world like Universitat Jaume I in Spain, and the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles, California. I have a Ph.D. in Geography and Geographic Information Science and Systems (GIS) from the University of California, Santa Barbara. The University of Utah gave me an M.S. and B.S. in Geography, as well as a B.S. in Computer Science. Years ago, I started Valarm with my brother Lorenzo and a few friends. Time has flown by and now we’ve passed our 10th year helping our customers save time, money, and lives by monitoring sensors and Industrial IoT systems with https://Tools.Valarm.net.

Q: Who has been your biggest influence, and why did they have such a significant effect on you?

My family, parents, brothers, sisters, and friends are a big influence on me since they’ve shared with me the many different ways to live life. During my 10 years in college, I was inspired by Mike Goodchild and Jack Dangermond, two legends of GIS that I was lucky to work with over the years.

Q: Knowing what you know now, what would you have told yourself when you were in your twenties?

Focus on your customers. Find your first customers and keep your customers happy. Forget and ignore the haters. Keep going and living honestly with solid morals and ethics. Gratitude.
