Allegheny County is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,224,825. The county seat is Pittsburgh. The county was created on September 24, 1788, from parts of Washington and Westmoreland counties and named for the Allegheny River. The county comprises the Pittsburgh metropolitan area, which is the second-largest in both Pennsylvania and Ohio Valley and the 20th-largest in the United States.
