Zoran Kovacic | Founder of Media Daily

Introduction

Success leaves clues.

Finance Strategists sat down with Zoran Kovačić, founder of Media Daily. He shared his thoughts on the past, present, and future of the company, as well as the insight he gained from running the business.

Who is Zoran Kovačić?

Q: Who are you and what’s your background?

My name is Zoran Kovačić, and I was born in 1966 in a town called Kutina in Croatia. I have been happily married for over 27 years, and I have two beautiful children. I have been in the media business for more than 35 years and have worked in almost all types of media (radio, print, television, and online). So, I can definitely say that media is my life. I own several media outlets, and I love starting new media-related projects.

Q: Who has been your biggest influence, and why did they have such a significant effect on you?

Influences varied from media to media. What attracted me to the first medium in which I got a job (local radio in the city where I live) was my fascination with Radio Luxembourg and its presenters. I also wanted to become a radio host, and it came true very quickly.

Q: Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your younger self?

A few things are needed for success and satisfaction. The first is to be yourself and preferably original. The second is to be persistent even when no one understands why you are doing something and never give up on your ideas. The third tip is that there is no success if you don’t take risks.

Business

Q: What is Media Daily?

Media daily is a media for media in the Adria region. Our web portal exists to inform everyone interested in the media to find out what is new in the industry, what are the trends on television, in radio programs, or in the online world. We have our correspondents in several countries, and our headquarters are in Zagreb, Croatia.

Q: What makes Media Daily different from its competitors?

The difference between us and the competition is that we produce original content and analysis that you can’t read anywhere else. We also organize various events such as the Election for the best regional news portal and media panel discussions which the competition does not do. As we are the source of information, our media agency is also engaged in consulting regarding the purchase and sale of all types of media, and we are very successful in that.

Q: What led you to start Media Daily?

This was my long-standing wish, but as I worked as the CEO of one television station, I did not have enough time to dedicate to the Media Daily portal. So in 2017, I decided to leave the television and dedicate myself only to this project. I am very pleased with how this is developing.

Q: What has the experience of building the business taught you?

It taught me that if you want to be good at what you do, you have to dedicate 100% of yourself to it. When I am fully focused on what I am doing and persistent enough, success will come over time.

Q: Where do you see things headed for you and the company in the next 5 years?

There's so much more I want to do in the next five years, and I'm not sure if I'll make it, ha, ha, ha. Anyhow, I don’t lack with plans but now in these crazy years of business instability, I work much more cautiously than I did when I was younger. One of the projects I am working on in parallel is a software solution for interactive television that will enable the connection of live TV programs via a mobile application to easily enable viewers to participate in television programs. If it comes to life successfully in the coming years, I will be very pleased.
