Louise Broekman | Founder of the Advisory Board Centre

Introduction

Success leaves clues.

Finance Strategists sat down with Louis Broekman, Founder of the Advisory Board Centre. She shared her thoughts on the past, present, and future of the company, as well as the insights she has gained from running the business.

Who is Louise Broekman?

Q: Who are you and what’s your background?

I am an award-winning entrepreneur, researcher, and business advisor. Following the exit of my own business, which had a presence in eight countries across the globe, I continued my involvement in the advisory sector by chairing commercial advisory boards for high-growth businesses, before starting my second business.

I am fortunate to have a unique profile where senior executive career experience intersects with academic research, which has stemmed from sitting on both sides of the table, in the shoes of a founder and that of a chair of multiple advisory boards.

My commercial acumen coupled with my passion for and commitment to researched-backed and evidence-based methodologies has developed my experience as a strong facilitator and speaker, providing insights and value to our members on our programs.

I have spearheaded multiple commissioned and collaborative research reports, business benchmarking studies, and market trend analyses, ensuring I remain current in the market and in touch with the latest developments across the sector.

Q: Who has been your biggest influence, and why did they have such a significant effect on you?

In 2005, I established an advisory board and it changed my life. It is amazing what a group of specifically chosen independent advisors can have on your own confidence.

Q: Knowing what you know now, what advice would you have given your younger self?

There is great value in silence – it fosters curiosity and courage.

Business

Q: What is Advisory Board Centre?

The global professional body for the advisory board sector.

Q: What separates Advisory Board Centre from its competitors?

The Advisory Board Centre is the sole professional body for the sector globally. Where others focus on governance boards, the advisory board sector is dynamic and fast-growing.

Q: What led you to start Advisory Board Centre?

My personal experience with an advisory board was life-changing. To be able to share the sector with other like-minded professionals and have an impact on better decision-making is now my life’s work.

Q: What has the experience of building the business taught you?

Believing and living the purpose of your organisation helps you to live through the roller coaster!

Q: Where do you see things headed for you and the company in the next five years?

We have a 100-year strategy. We have just turned 5 and we are operating in 20 countries. In the next five years, the foundations for a self-regulated global market will be strong.
