The county was created in 1855 by the Utah Territorial Legislature. It was named for Jedediah Morgan, a fur trapper and trader who was killed by Indians in 1826. Morgan County is located in east central Utah and covers 1,171 square miles. The topography of the county is varied, with elevations ranging from 4,000 to 11,500 feet above sea level. The eastern part of the county is dominated by the Wasatch Mountains, while the western part consists of high desert country. The major highways in Morgan County are U.S. Highway 6 and U.S. Highway 50. The major streets are Main Street in Morgan and State Street in Ogden.
